Madisonville is located in the Western Coal Field region of Kentucky. Madisonville (population 19,307) is the county seat of Hopkins County (population 46,519). It is within a short, one hour drive of the Evansville, IN Metro area (population 296,195) to the north and Clarksville, TN Metro area (population 201,352) to the south. Madisonville is a commercial center of the region with shopping, dining, and entertainment abound. The Madisonville area is the home to two malls, two movie theaters, many fine and casual dining establishments, as well as an active downtown community.
Madisonville and Hopkins County is a home to industry as well. General Electric Aircraft Engines, Autoliv,Period Furniture (a division of KI Furniture), GlitterWrap, and Carhartt and others all have operations in the Madisonville area. Madisonville and most of Hopkins County is in the Hopkins County School District. Hopkins County Schools contains eight elementary school, four middle school, and two high school sub-districts. Dawson Springs is under the Dawson Springs Independent School District. Madisonville also has a Community College and Technical School and is within a short drive of several four year colleges and universities in Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee. |
